Superintendent's Message

Dear Richland Families,

The Board of Education recently approved the Staffing Plan for the 2018-19 school year.  There are a few changes coming to Richland District 88A we want everyone to know about.

Effective July 1st, the District will employ 2 principals, one for the Elementary and one for the Junior High.  Mr. Joseph Lindsey, our current Elementary Assistant Principal, and EL Coordinator has been named the Elementary Principal.  The Junior High Principal position is open and a search for a person to fill this position has begun.

Dr. Kelly Whyte will move from her current role as Principal and assume a new role, as Director of Programs for the District.  This job will focus on sustaining the many programs (lunch, transportation, grants, assessment, compliance, activities, athletics, curriculum, etc.) the District currently has in place.  This position is also currently posted.

Ms. Cheri Russell will be retiring at the end of the year – we wish her well and thank her for her many years of service to the District!  Her position of Assistant Principal will be replaced with a Dean of Students/Assistant Activities Coordinator position for next year.

The Board has made a commitment to try and maintain low-class sizes in the Primary Grades, as long as finances permit, in order to provide more direct instruction in smaller groups for our young learners.

Additionally, the Board has announced its intent to move to a full day kindergarten program for the 2019-2020 school year!  We will provide more information on this transition during the course of the school year next year.

We are excited about the changes that will be taking place here at Richland and look forward to better serving our students, families and the community in the coming year.

Mr. Simpkins
