All student medications at school must have a Richland District Medication Authorization Form completed by the doctor & parent at the start of each school year. Medications must be kept in the nurses office with the exception of Inhalers & EPIPENS if an updated Authorization Form is on File. Authorization Forms may be printed at the link below from our website or from the school office.

In an effort to decrease the amount of illness at school, your child must stay home when they are sick under the guidelines of the school handbook. So that we can monitor communicable conditions at school we ask that you notify us of the specific reason your child will not be in absent ie. Fever, Cough, Asthma, Flu, Vomiting, Injury, etc.
We ask that parents speak with their children about the importance of practicing good hygiene practices. Take these every day steps to protect your health:
- COVER YOUR COUGH! Cough and/or Sneeze into your shoulder or arm (instead of into your hand) to help contain germs. If you do cough into your hands, wash them or use hand sanitizer.
- Wash your hands with soap and water or clean with alcohol based hand sanitizers. Always wash your hands after using the bathroom and before eating.
- Keep your hands away form your face. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth as this is a common way to spread germs.
- Eat a nutritious diet and get plenty of rest.
- If you are sick with a FLU like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours until your fever is below 100 without the use of fever reducing medicine.
We recommend that you consult with your child’s physician or the Will County Health Department regarding vaccination against the influenza virus.
Students must be fever free (Below 100) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school. These are the same school requirements as for any type of Communicable illnesses. Please refer to your Student Handbook or our district website for other guidelines for illness.
Thanks so much for helping the students and staff at Richland stay healthy! |

If your child is celebrating their birthday here at school, please make sure the treats brought in are either non-edible or on the approved snack list below. We will not send home treats that do not appear on the approved list because they do not support the school’s wellness policy. You must check with your child's teacher first prior to sending treats. Many students have serious Food Allergies, and we need to be sure that the treats will be safe for all children.
BIRTHDAY TREATS The birthday treat policy indicates that birthday treats provided at school must be listed on the approved snack list or be inedible treats. Please see below for approved birthday snacks: (As a district, we are not endorsing these brands. We are trying to make the items on the list easy for you to find.)
HEALTHY SNACKS All labels must be intact and may not have any ingredients that may contain nuts, or be manufactured in the same facility as nuts if there is a child with a NUT ALLERGY in the individual classroom . Check with your child’s homeroom teacher prior to sending any treats to school. All snacks/treats sent must be pre-packaged/individually portioned by the manufacturer. Treats must meet these requirements or they will not be distributed to the children. (NO CUPCAKES AND CANDY) This includes take-home treat bags. Treats sent must be able to be distributed to all children in the classroom.
